SUMMARY:Introduction to Time-Series
DESCRIPTION:This is an online event streaming here: https://www.crowdcast.i
o/e/phpne-march2020/1\n\nWe are pleased to announce the April 2020 event f
or PHP North East\, "Introduction to Time-Series" by David McKay. Like las
t month this is an online only event - the event link is visible once you
RSVP.\n\nTime-Series has been the fastest growing database category\, rate
 d by DBEngines\, for over 2 years\; yet\, less than 15% of organisations s
tore their time-series data in a time-series database. Do you?\n\nOne coul
d\, accurately\, say that time-series data is as old as the universe\; but
it wasn't until the mid-19th century that the first article was published
on the concept: A Comparison of the Fluctuations in the Price of Wheat an
d in the Cotton and Silk Imports into Great Britain by J. H. Poynting (Mar
ch 1884).\n\nTime-Series data is so natural and common that you actually c
onsume\, evaluate\, and utilise it everyday\; when you're:\n\n- Paying for
your morning coffee\n\n- Sighing at the "Delayed" notice on your commute\
n\n- Ploughing through your email inbox\n\nIn this talk we will look at th
e different types of time-series data and how to use that to drive observa
tions\, understanding\, and automation.\n\nMost data is best understood in
the dimension of time\, lets see why.\n\nDavid is a Developer Advocate at
InfluxData\, the company behind the leading time series database\, Influx
DB\; and a member of the Kubernetes release team.\n\nAs a professional tec
hnology magpie\, David was an early adopter of cloud\, container\, and clo
ud-native technologies\; crossing the murky waters of AWS in 2008\, Docker
in 2014\, and Kubernetes in 2015.\n\nWith an insatiable love for technolo
gy\, David is always on the hunt to learn and share knowledge with others
 in fun and exciting ways.\n\nhttps://www.larachat.co/meetings/introduction
